sacred gathering

Posted on 12 May 2011

To my fellow sisterhood of baby carriers.

I hope you had a joyous Mothers Day and got to spend some quality time with your most precious creations.

This past weekend was truly one of the most special and sacred gatherings that I will store deep down in the treasure cove of my mind. It was the first time since both my sister and I have had our babies that our whole family was together. My sister, her hubby and 7 week old India Grace drove from Joburg and the 8 of us collected at Bellwood Cottage (a magical spot in the wet and misty Midlands), perfect weather to do nothing but chill around a warm log fire. It really felt like one of those Oprah '360 degree' moments. As soon as I woke up, Cooper and I popped into bed with my folks, my sister and Indi joined us, and my Dad remarked what a blessing it was to have us all together as a family with his girls and their babies.

As for my Mothers Day gift: oh be still my beating heart! Cooper (with Mike's help) painted me the most unbelievable little primary-coloured canvas. I couldn't believe my eyes. I so expected a handprint card, which I would have adored, but this exceeded my expectations. Apparently the art session took place in the bathroom one night while I was at work. Tins of bright paint, little fleshy hands and yells of joy as the wet mixture spread. It is already hanging up in prime position next to my necklace display in our bedroom. To answer the hypothetical question of what material  possessions I would grab if my house was on fire? Yup, you guessed it: Coopers painting. All I can say is Coop has most certainly set a high standard for years to come!

As far as my journey to a better me with Lisa Raleigh: I have lost 4.4kgs in 3 weeks! Can i get a whoop-whoop?

All my love

Jane
