Child Prostitution in 2010

"Let's create awareness... Awareness is power and the only way to protect our children from the ruthless hands of criminals is to ensure that they are vigilant and careful."

It is hard for any of us to imagine that there is a child trafficking and prostitute ring in operation in South Africa.  The main intent of this underworld operation being to service foreign visitors who will be attending the 2010 Soccer World Cup celebrations.

A scary fact.... an alert was sent out by the SAPS police commisioner notifying parents to be aware that children as young as age 10 are at risk of being kidnapped by crime syndicates in prepartion for prostitution rings in 2010!  The average age of kids (boys & girls I might add!) being trafficked is 14, and the average amount of men one child will need to ‘satisfy’ per day is estimated to be around 40.... Scary stuff!  Sounds so hard to believe... but it IS happening!

Focusing on a campaign to create awareness about child trafficking is part of an ongoing campaign between now and the world cup soccer event by many NPO's.

Prostitution, especially in children is a HUGE industry, and there are so many good organizations already doing excellent work but as a community, we all need to be involved in educating our family, friends and colleagues, but most importantly our children on what to look out for & how to handle the situation when stumbled upon.

We need to educate each other that it is not always best for anyone when you choose to ‘look away’ but rather how to safely make a difference.

So, how to make a difference... Let's create awareness! Awareness is power and the only way to protect our children from the ruthless hands of criminals is to ensure that they [our children] are vigilant and careful.
